Facts about Skovhuggeren MTB trail
Skovhuggeren is a 17 km “pay to ride” mountain bike track located close to Svendborg on Funen, Denmark. The area around Hvidkilde Agriculture Estate, where the mountain bike trail is located, is a 150-hectare forest area with primarily conifer and oak forest. Altogether there are 14 kilometers of blue and red tracks, with black and orange sections, which can be selected as add ons. In addition, there is a 3 km dedicated downhill area with black and orange trails.
The first part of the 12 km MTB track opened on 23 April 2016. In April 2017 another 5 km opened and the MTB trail has since been updated and re-routed as the sport of mountain biking has evolved. So now the mountain bike course consists primarily of singletrack, where the blue track can be ridden by everyone. The red track can be ridden by most people, but here there are steep ascents and descents as well as obstacles where you get air under the bike. It must be said, however, that on the red track, separate tracks have been built around the larger obstacles.
Around the blue and red MTB track, there are individual black and orange passages, but these must be actively selected. In addition, you will find a dedicated Downhill area with large gaps and drops, where it is recommended to ride with a full-face helmet and knee, back and elbow protection
Skovhuggeren mountainbike trail has on several occasions been awarded as one of the best trails in Denmark.
The association Egebjerg Bakker MTB Spor
The association is non-profit, so all income is used for forest rent as well as maintenance and development of the trail. The Nordea Foundation has distributed DKK 769,000 at the start of the process, while LAG SØM and Svendborg Municipality have contributed DKK 200,000 and DKK 100,000 respectively to the establishment of the track. In addition, there is co-financing for the project from Hvidkilde Gods and Naturturisme I/S of DKK 100,000 and DKK 50,000 respectively.
The future maintenance and development of the track is paid for with contingent income and sponsorships from local businesses.
In the construction process, the focus is on a good flow in the track. Furthermore, we build with nature in mind, so that the constructions blend in with nature as much as possible. The flow track is created using the natural contours of the terrain, and the aim is to build a self-draining track so that the track can be run every day, all year round.
Everyone can help build the track via our track builders’ guild. See more at SKOVHUGGEREN’s Byg & Bike on Facebook. Over time, a track building course has been arranged for those interested, and experience is now passed on from track builder to track builder, so that the spirit and construction techniques around the track remain in the spirit of the Woodcutter.
The forest is also accessible to other guests, and the mtb track has been built with special permission from the plot owner and authorities. Therefore, the track is not a publicly accessible track either, but exclusively for MTB riding and may not be used by horses, runners or others (not least for safety reasons).
Protection zones have been laid out in the area for the sake of wildlife and §3 areas (protected nature). Likewise, past monuments (dykes, burial mounds, etc.) are taken into account.
The track is 99% singletrack and therefore does not follow existing paths. The mountain bike trail is laid out in places you, as a visitor, have guaranteed never been before.
We look forward to welcoming you to Skovhuggeren, a fantastic MTB track on Funen.
